Island Rumble Results

by combat x on June 22, 2009

MXC hosted their Island Rumble event on Saturday night. The event featured a day long party with bands and other events capped off by some cage fights.  A special thanks to Shannon Hale for her help in getting these results.

Fight #1:
Pat Reitmeyer (1-0) vs. Johnny Ryttersguard (0-0)
Winner: Pat Reitmeyer

Fight #2
Josh Beck (0-0) vs. Steve LaBoe (1-0)Winner: Steve LaBoe

I’d like to start off by saying that it was 84 degrees according to the thermometer in my car, and it was very humid. The fights were outside under a tent, but it was obvious that a lot of these guys train at gyms with air conditioning. A few guys seemed to almost pass out from the heat, another guy almost threw up. The heat and humidity definitely played a factor in the cage.

Fight #3
David Ward (0-0, 220lb) vs. John Falkenberg (0-0, Detroit Dog Pound)
Winner: John Falkenberg- Tap out by strikes in the 2nd round.

Fight #4
Luke Sheer (0-1, Detroit Dog Pound) vs. Jake Poole (0-1, Detroit Dog Pound)
Jake Poole landed a wicked kick to Luke Sheer’s neck resulting in a 5 minute break, but Luke Sheer got his revenge by winning the fight.
Winner: Luke Sheer – Tap out due to choke.

Fight #5
Sam Allen (161lb., 0-0) vs. Bryan Ross (172lb., record not available)
Winner: Sam Allen with a TKO

Fight #6
Josh “El Toro Wilkinson (1-1) vs. Rob “Brickhouse” Bennett (201lb, 1-1, Detroit Dog Pound)
Winner: Josh Wilkinson, verbal submission. Rob Bennett couldn’t breathe and passed out.

Fight #7
Mike Floyd (200lb., 0-0) vs. John green (210lb., 3-0)
Winner: John Green, verbal submission.

Fight #8
Ian Clegg (0-1, 157lb, Detroit Dog Pound vs. Justin Coker (0-1, 150lb, Team Texas Pain)
Justin Coker came up the stairs into the ring and did standing back flip. Then, he climbed to the top of the cage, did jump/flip off the cage landing in the center of the ring flexing and scowling. Luckily he was able to back his showy entrance up with a win.
Winner: Justin Coker. Looked like a Knock out to me, but I didn’t hear the official call.

Fight #9
Brandon Noble (0-0, 170lb., Team Casey) vs. Chris “The Warrior” Alexander (0-0, 167lb.)
Winner: Brandon Noble, TKO.
I didn’t even see the end of this fight because a fight broke out in the crowd.

Fight #10
Brad Bondy (151lb, Detroit Dog Pound) vs. Justin Naylor (160lb) – No fight records available
Winner: Justin Naylor by tap out.

Fight #11
Doug Peterson (203lb, 0-0) vs. Alex Keller (199lb, 0-1)
Winner: Alex Keller by Tap Out

Fight #12
Tim Murry (41 years old, 131lb., 0-0) vs. Jamie Dushane (41 years old, 135lb., 0-4, Detroit Dog Pound)
Winner: Jamie Dushane, rear naked choke.

Fight #13
Juve (167lb., 0-3) vs. Ryan Black (173lb., 2-0, Detroit Dog Pound)
Winner: Juve, rear naked choke.

Fight #14
Don Trout (1-2) vs. Kyle Stevens (0-0, Detroit Dog Pound)
Winner: Kyle Stevens, ref stoppage.
If you ask me, the ref should have stopped the fight sooner than he did.

Fight #15
Cody Rickard (189lb., 0-1) vs. Kyle Kholmen (185lb., 0-0, Detroit Dog Pound)
Winner: Cody Rickard, verbal submission. Kyle Kholmen couldn’t continue. Breathing too hard despite taking a break during the fight for an illegal knee to the head perpetrated by Cody Rickard.

Fight #16

Glenn Peterson (185lb., 1-2, Detroit Dog Pound) vs. Jeff Wiese (177lb., 0-2)
Winner: Jeff Wiese, rear naked choke/tap out.

Fight #17
Jeff Vergowven (157.8lb., 1-0, Detroit Dog Pound) vs. Chris Wellman (150.2lb., 0-0)
Winner: Jeff Vergowven, submission.

Fight #18
Pat Wiese (272.8lb., 1-1) vs. Ray “The War Machine” R. (257lb., 2-1, Detroit Dog Pound)
Winner: Ray R.
The ref definitely stopped this fight too soon, Pat Wiese was still fighting hard and I think he might have won. I was very disappointed, and so was most of the crowd. There was a lot of booing, and a lot of protesting going on in the crowd at the end of this one.

Fight #19
Chuck Nostiant (181lb., 1-0) vs. Adam Trombley (183lb., 2-1, Detroit Dog Pound)
Winner: Chuck Nostiant, rear naked choke.

Fight #20
Belt: 170lb title
Billy Ward (167lb., 4-1, East Side Combat) vs. Brad Brown (167lb., 3-0)
Winner: Brad Brown, knockout, 1st round.

Fight #21
Belt: 145lb. title
Nick Vuich (145lb., 3-3, Detroit Dog Pound) vs. Dean Walsh (144lb., 4-3)
Winner: Dean Walsh, knockout in less than a minute in the 1st round (2nd or 3rd punch thrown).
Nick got up and carried Dean around the ring several times – once on his shoulders – if there was a belt for good sportsmanship, Nick would have won it.

Fight #22
Belt: 185lb. title (rematch)

Mark Esway (176lb., 8-4, Team Texas Pain) vs. Sean Casey (182lb., 2-1, Team Casey)
Winner: Sean Casey, knockout, 1st round.

Esway started out by delivering a low blow to Casey. Casey didn’t take the full 5 minutes, but lost his mouth guard shortly afterwards. Casey lost his mouth guard a second time, the ref went to pick it up, and Casey tried to signal a time out to Esway. Esway didn’t catch on, and continued to hit Casey, so Casey kept on fighting. Esway took a punch to the throat (which Casey denied, but I saw it). Esway left the ring spitting up a good quantity of blood.

Casey was immediately issued a challenge for his newly gained title from Nate Patrick.

Fight #23
Main event
Belt: 155lb weight class
Rick Morais (157lb., 3-1, Detroit Dog Pound) vs. Nate “Rampage” Ellison (2-0)
Winner: Rick Morais, knockout, early in 1st round.
Ellison took 3 hits to back of head, and the ref definitely should have noticed.

Hello, I work for the mxc and I just wanted to correct an error in the fight results. Pat Reitmeyer did not win the first fight, he lost due to verbal submission in between the first and second round. He slipped and messed up his ankle. While he did beat the crap out of Johnny Ryttersguard he was not fit to continue the fight therein losing the bout.

Also, on the headlining fight with Nate Ellison and Rick Morais; when Nate got hit in the back of the head he was covered up and turning his head to avoid side punches resulting in him getting hit in the back of the head. Anyone who fights knows that they happen, it’s just like a groin shot, it will happen eventually. Would it make any difference if rick got a point taken away for a strike to the back of the head? Because he still pounded him out prior to that.
